Why are people so afraid of the fairness doctrine?

I'm not Its about educating your public. People can say and do what ever they want but it involves the public you have to give time for the other side to voice their opitions. Why are people afraid of educating themselves. I really dont think they know what it is. Its keeping the public from being lead down a blind alley.
